The Internet of Things (IoT) is the interconnection of physical objects, such as furniture, machinery, and buildings, which are connected to the internet via electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity. The IoT makes it possible for items to be sensed and/or controlled remotely over the top of the current network infrastructure, opening up possibilities for a closer integration of the physical world with computer-based systems and bringing about improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and economic gain. Each object has an embedded computing system that makes it uniquely identifiable, but it can still communicate with other things using the current Internet infrastructure.
